GM Note: These examples are presented to demonstrate ways to set out your turnsheet actions, and what the GMs expect to see in an action. As a reminder, turnsheets are for you to set out what your character intends to do, and how they might respond to potential setbacks. What actually happens is up to the GMs, and will be presented in your turnsheet response.
All the characters mentioned here are made up for the purposes of this example.
Help decorate Solarium's dream castle
Solarium thinks his castle playset needs a bit of a redesign, and I'm inclined to agree - where we disagree is on what that should look like. He's all “it should be prettier” and “let's have some nice banners”, but what if we make it into a proper fortress which could help us against the monsters? And then cover it in skulls because skulls are cool.
So I'm going to be helping with the decoration, but definitely adding extra skulls and heavy-duty-looking armour when Solarium isn't looking.
OC: I'm expecting a certain amount of shenanigans here, entirely happy for the castle to end up more like Solarium's vision than mine.
Defend Jordan against the shadow-creatures from the cupboard, with a cunning arrangement of mirrors
The Seer predicts that the things coming from the cupboard tonight will be shadow monsters - our normal weapons won't do much, but bright light should banish them. Unfortunately, bright light could also wake Jordan up, so we need to be careful.
I'm expecting Constructabot MK2 to assemble a series of mirrors, and Prince Solarium to do some workings of imagination to make the moon extra bright tonight. My job is going to be sitting on the turret Constructabot made and aiming the light beam at the monsters, while avoiding dazzling Jordan.
If that fails and we need to get up close and personal, I have the glowstick Buzzy Beetle found in the attic last turn - it's not as bright, but it'll probably do some damage if I hit them with it.
The next few actions are presented to give a bit more context for how the Night action above might look from the perspective of other characters
Assemble a light cannon out of the mirrors Floppy the Fox has
The Seer predicts that the things coming from the cupboard tonight will be shadow monsters - our normal weapons won't do much, but bright light should banish them. Unfortunately, bright light could also wake Jordan up, so we need to be careful.
My part in the plan is to take the mirrors from Floppy the Fox, and use them to build a light cannon for Detective Gizmo to shoot the monsters with. The light cannon is going to be powered by the moon - enhanced by some moon magic that Prince Solarium will be doing.
My plan is to attach the mirrors to various points around the room, making sure the light beam stays as far from the bed as I can, but the best place for the turret is probably going to end up being on one of the bedposts. One of the mirrors is a makeup mirror on a hinge, so that'll work best for the actual turret so it can be aimed.
GM Notes: This is presented as an example of an action the player expects to fail, but thinks will make a good story in the process. This is mainly to illustrate that this is something you can do - it's not a style of play that suits every player, but if you think something might be an interesting problem for your character, or their plan is overly ambitious and it would be better for the character arc for it to fail, you can absolutely suggest this to the GMs. We won't necessarily run with it, or we might take things in a different direction, but we appreciate the ideas and the steering towards what you want to see in the game.
Note that this action says some things that might happen based on the player's perception of other NPCs. It does not attempt to dictate the actions of those NPCs, as that is up to the GMs.
Enchant the moon to make it glow extra bright, to help defeat the shadow monsters
Tonight, the biggest threat to Jordan is shadow monsters. Luckily, as the bovine prince of the sun, I'm really good with light! Unluckily, it's night so being the prince of the sun isn't super useful.
But I have that imagination recovered from Jordan's werewolf dream last night, which should help with things to do with the moon, and moonlight is just reflected sunlight, so that's close enough, right? (this might be a stretch - if that fails than I can just use my glowing body to power the turret, and hide behind the curtains so that doesn't wake Jordan up and I'm in the right place for the mirrors, but that would definitely be a matter of Solarium going for a panicked backup option after his first plan fails due to overconfidence).
With the bright moonlight (or divine cowlight, as appropriate), Contructabot MK2 will be using it to power a light turret to zap the monsters - not sure exactly who's piloting that, but I'm pretty sure someone is lined up.
I'm also going to be right by The Window for most of this - I wasn't really paying attention to what's going on there tonight, but I'm sure it'll be fine (OC note: Very happy for this not to be fine - also I can't make it to next session so if Solarium survives I'm happy for him to get stolen by crows for a bit or something)
GM Note: One more example action, as an example of interacting with the wider house (which is from a later turnsheet and gives some hints as to how the previous action might have gone.)
Find the shiniest thing in the house.
OK so Prince Solarium got himself stolen by a crow, and apparently we're supposed to rescue him because Jordan is sad about it. Seems like his own fault, but sure I guess - plus folks said I wasn't allowed to have the castle if he didn't come back.
We need something extra shiny to trade (and we're getting a few options, because we might be able to get more things from the crows this way) - I'm going up into the attic, because I've got a good track record of sneaking past the monsters up there. The goal is the box marked “holiday decorations” - I'm aiming for a sparkly bauble, or a set of battery powered fairy lights, or really anything suitably pretty and shiny.
There's other folks going for other options - but I'm not expecting to work with them, we'll compare our hauls in session.
