The new room is scary! There's lots of places where monsters can hide, and they're all different! They're all horrible and if they get to me in the night it would be really bad!
Kelly's toys had pretty much cleared out the old room before we got there - but this is a whole new place, and it's just us here now. Really wish we'd asked them more about the old days before the rush of the move, but they didn't want to talk about it. We've got to keep Jordan safe, establish some kind of defence, and figure out what we're dealing with here and how to stop them.
We know it's not just a matter of squaring up for a fight and hitting them until they go away - those of us without swords in our playsets still have plenty to do. Weapons have their place - but some light, some cunning, or a good plan will let you deal with more of them.
It's really dark under there and I can't see all the way under even when it's light in the room. There must be a whole other place down there full of monsters! And now they know I'm here!
We've sent some initial scouts in - there's a whole realm under there, all darkness and teeth and claws. First priority is to defend against the stuff coming out, but we're going to have to go exploring and map it out if we want to stop them for good.
OC: “Under The Bed” is an explorable place, similar to an open-world videogame or tabletop RPG dungeon, with a diverse array of threats that may come to the surface, and other creatures that may provide opportunities or hazards for those who explore.
I checked the cupboard out in the daytime and it was definitely empty, but there was definitely something in there overnight! I think it's just making monsters when it thinks I'm asleep.
Every night, something new - those toys with a little foresight can get some hints, which is enough for us to figure out how to fight it, but there's no winning here - we banish a monster one night, something different comes along the next.
OC: The Cupboard will create monsters - there isn't anything to explore inside it, and it will have more of a “monster of the week” feel for the toys to defend against.
I don't like the attic hatch - it stays closed but it's still really dark up there. And Dad says that there's a bunch of his toys and mum's toys and Kelly's toys trapped in boxes up there which we haven't unpacked yet, and I'm worried about them.
If we leave it alone, there's no risk here - that hatch is closed tight enough. But we can get up there, and if we do there's allies and accessories and who knows what else to be found! We can make some good stuff for ourselves, don't get me wrong - but an on-brand accessory just feels right, you know? Gonna need some scouting though - most of those boxes will be pretty useless.
OC: The Attic has several boxes which are yet to be unpacked, which may contain accessories, playsets, other toys, or other items of use. The monsters up there pose no threat to Jordan, but they guard the treasures within, and those treasures might help against other monsters.
There's things out in the night that tap at the window behind the curtains, wanting to be let in! All flappity and screechy and scratchy.
Whole lot of night past that window - pretty sure way to get lost to go poking around too far out there. Seems to be the same things coming back night after night though, and some of them seem to want to talk.
OC: Beyond the Window will play much more with the tropes of fae, and other otherworldly beings. The garden is right there - the toys can look out over it during the day, maybe even go and explore it a little, but the creatures that come to the window at night are stranger than anything in the mundane world, and there are strange shadows in the darkness.
My dreams are real bad in this new bed. I'll be sleeping and safe under the blanket and then I'll have a nightmare and I'll wake up and because I've been tossing and turning my foot will be out from under the duvet and the monsters can get it again! And then I'm even more scared of the monsters and my dreams get scarier.
Something is clearly troubling Jordan in their dreams - but we can't get in there to help. They're tossing and turning in their sleep while we're fighting for our lives against the monsters, and it's terrible to watch.
